Swim Course
The swim is a clockwise triangular loop. You want to keep the buoys to the right of you at all times. There will be 3 optional floating rest stations on the course. The rest stations will be identified by lifeguards on surfboards in bright yellow vests. You will be allowed to stop and rest without being pulled from the swim. Resting or getting assistance from any lifeguard NOT in a yellow vest will result in you being pulled out of the water and disqualified from the race. If that happens you must turn in your timing chip, but you are encouraged to complete the bike and run without being timed.
Bike Course
The bike course is a 3 loop course and all participants are responsible for counting their loops. An easy way to remember is to think of the loops as a traffic light. Red for the first loop, yellow for the second and green for the third. At the end of the green loop you're good to head back into the transition area.
Run Course
The run course is an out and back loop. Runners should stay on the left hand side of the trail. The run will be clearly marked and will have two Aid Stations with water and Gatorade.
Transition Area
The transition area is for ATHLETES ONLY. You will need to get body marked (with your race number) and have a wrist band in order to get in and out of transition.
Restrooms
There are two sets of restrooms. The first set is at the front of the entrance to the swim area. If you look to the west from the swim entrance there is another set of bathrooms (approximately 40 yards away) next to the sand volleyball courts.
Carpooling, looking for other Mermaids?
There is a Yahoo Mermaid group that is open for asking questions, selling equipment, carpooling, etc. To find out more go to:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/mermaidfriends.
You can also find other Mermaid friends and fans on Yelp.com.

Recycling
In an effort to reduce waste and our environmental impact we've got some great ecoMermaid news. This year all of our participant t-shirts are 100% organic cotton and we'll have collection bins to recycle used running shoes. Shoes are brought to Mexico with a non-profit group called "Finding Sophia" (http://www.findingsophia.org) We also have a goal to recycle 100% of all the plastic bottles and cans consumed at the Mermaid so we've placed numerous recycling containers around the park, please help us reach our goal.
Apparel
All Mermaids love to shop, check out our sporty apparel line at the Mermaid Expo on Saturday. We've got great new cycling jersey's, triathlon race tops, mesh running hats and visors.
We are looking forward to seeing all the Mermaids on Saturday.
Cheers!
