The Program:
The Mini Mermaid Running Club is about to launch it's second session on October 5th. This FREE program for young girls in grades 2nd-5th will be held in Santa Cruz at Del Mar Elementary. The goal is to provide young girls in lower income elementary schools the opportunity to run, train, exercise and learn valuable lessons about their body, nutrition and life. The program is FREE and is only made possible through personal donations. For $25 per student, we are able to provide the girls with training, coaching, educational materials, race entry to the Mermaid, t-shirts and running shoes if they need them. This is all to get them ready for the Mermaid 5k run at San Francisco on November 14th. You can help make this program a success by sponsoring a Mini Mermaid. Donations are tax deductible! If you are interested in helping in anyway, please email heidi@mermaidtriathlon.com
Donations:
Donations can be made via the paypal link on the Finding Sophia website.
Curriculum:
With the help of Susie Morgan, MA, MA, LMFT, BCPC, DAPA, NCCM, Clinical Director, Santa Cruz Relational Health Associates, Inc. we have created a curriculum that will walk the girls through their mind, heart and body to help them realize that their body is theirs and is capable of anything. Team Mermaid Head Coach USAT Certified coach is helping along with creators Megan Tresham and Becca Alley to design workouts that incorporate a self esteem concept along with fun, action packed activity that will build up the strength the girls need to cross the finish line.
Our Mission:
Mini Mermaid, est 2009, is a non profit running club for elementary aged girls. Our goal is to help build self esteem and give all girls a chance to fall in love with running, moving their bodies and experiencing the satisfaction of crossing a finish line.
